Sherwood Ford Soccer Skills Competition

Sherwood Ford and Competitive Thread Partner with S.P.D.S.A for the Sherwood Ford Skills Competition at the K-Day’s Kickoff Soccer Tournament

Sherwood Park, AB- The Sherwood Park District Soccer Association, in partnership with Competitive Thread Ltd. and Sherwood Ford, announced today that a soccer skill-testing competition will be held July 18th, 2015, in conjunction with the K-Day’s Kickoff tournament.

Designed to assist athletes with their skill development utilizing standardized protocols and precision gate technology, these testing sessions will allow athletes to identify both their strengths and weaknesses by comparing their results with peers. All participating athletes will be provided with an online profile that allows them to compare their scores to their peers across North America and track their development over time. Players should come out of testing with a better, more realistic idea of their skills and what level they are currently at.

The title sponsor for the event is Sherwood Ford and they will be supplying the awards for the top performing athletes. Sherwood Ford, located in Sherwood Park, Alberta is the first choice with the best selection in new and used cars, trucks, and SUV’s. “They’re invested heavily in this community and jumped at the opportunity to participate in this event,” said Dan Waschuk, President at Competitive Thread. “They understand and support the drive and mindset of these elite athletes as they train and compete in hopes of one day becoming professional athletes.”

The K-Days Kickoff runs July 17-19, 2015 in Sherwood Park. This brand new tournament is an elite level tournament for ages U10-U18 in Tier I, II and III. The tournament is club oriented, in that clubs are encouraged to sign up as many teams as possible in order to develop a following and for teams of each club to support one another through a weekend of competitive soccer. The tournament will be played at some of the best fields around Sherwood Park.

“This type of skills competition is different and something I think that the players will thoroughly enjoy,” says Graeme Dickson, communications coordinator for SPDSA. “The competitive nature of these players will have them not only trying to be the best on their team but also the best at the tournament in these beneficial tests. Coaches can greatly benefit from the skills competition by analyzing the data of their players and determining the areas of strength and areas in need of improvement for their team and individual players. “

The testing conducted during these sessions will be a series of four (4) tests specifically developed to measure a soccer player’s speed, agility, quickness and strength. Each player will receive two attempts for each test and be able to see their scores instantly on the live scoreboard. The cost per player to attend will be $20 online at  http://www.spdsa.net/?p=msastore or $25 live at the event. Prizes will be provided to the top performers in each age category.
